A Life in the Spirit Seminar will be presented by a team of parishioners beginning June 11 and will continue for six consecutive Fridays, ending July 23. Many participants have described this seminar as a life-changing event.
Some, when first invited to attend a seminar, had said to themselves, "That's not for me." But, with the nudging of the Holy Spirit and the encouragement of fellow parishioners, they gave it atry and were changed after experiencing an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
The goal of the seminar is simple. The training manual used by the seminar team states the seven sessions are designed "to help people find a new and fuller and better life as Christians by laying or strengthening the foundation of a truly Christian life."
The seminar is designed to help that relationship grow by helping you to learn to be guided by the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus was during His life on earth. You will come to accept Jesus not only as our Savior but as the Lord of your life. And, you are apt to experience the love of the Father in an overpowering, sometimes indescribable way.
The Life in the Spirit program is not a movement. The only movement the St. Bartholomew team wants you involved in is the Christian Movement. This is one way -- by no means the only way -- of developing a closer relationship with Jesus. After one seminar here at St. Barts, a parishioner wrote:
What did the Life in the Spirit Seminar do for me? Quite simply, I am no longer the person I was before. I can best explain this with the analogy that I described to my daughter. I told her that I was a man standing at a cave with my back to the bright world outside trying to make sense out of the shadows on the wall. Then He turned me around and that made all the difference.
I am now aware of my salvation. I understand that unless I submit totally to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ there is neither the joy, nor peace, nor love, nor quiet spirit that I so desperately sought all of my life. I told my daughter that I only knew of these changes within me. She said, "Dad, don't you know. You're no longer angry."
Others who have attended the seminars have told of similar life-changing experiences after experiencing an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Pray to determine if you are being called to attend this seminar. If so, you are urged to bring Christian friends from other churches, from your neighborhood and your workplace.
The seminar will feature talks by some of the team members followed by small group discussions. You will not be called on to speak before a large group. We will have a Spanish translation of thetalks and some small groups in which Spanish will be spoken. Each session will begin promptly at 7 p.m., and will last about two hours. A nursery will be available.
If you are a Catholic, you must have been confirmed in order to attend the seminar. There is no fee to attend the seminar; no contributions are solicited.
