The theme of our 2005 high school retreat (Come and See) was the Beatitudes. We centered around the Hebrew word Anawim. It is a word that means the widowed and orphaned - or - those utterly and totally dependant on God. On the retreat we spent time looking within ourselves to see the areas in our lives where we are not yet totally dependant on God.
What we discovered is that we are all Anawim. Every person on the planet, whether they realize it or not, is Anawim. Those of us who have recognized our dependence on God must in turn help others discover the Anawim within.

theme song: "Anawim"
The poor show me my poverty /
All us Anawim /
Emptied poor so we might become rich /
Turning old things upside down /
Jesus Barakah /
Turn the other cheek with dignity /
Claim a place at the table /
Given grace, He is able /
Becoming slaves of virtue /
Reduced to scarcity /
The fear of God is wisdom’s foundation /
Through one man’s disobedience /
Another’s sanctity /
The many will be made the sons of Him /
Claim a place at the table /
Given grace, He is able /
We’re at the edge of bliss /
Don’t turn back again /
We’re at the edge of liberation.
