Be God's

Hello - “Be God’s.”

That is how a musician named Rich Mullins used to end letters and sign autographs. His message to the world was to “Be God’s.” If he had just two words to say something to someone (like when signing an autograph) he would simply say “Be God’s” and sign his name. Rich recently passed on to the Father as a result of an automobile accident. and he left as his legacy some of the most powerful songs for, about, and to God ever written. He also left us the charge to “Be God’s.”

That got me thinking what would I say to the world if I only had a few words? I haven’t come up with an answer yet, but I want to ask you the same question. What would you say to the world if you only had a few words? The goal here is not to see who can come up with the coolest, or most poetic, or most powerful phrase. Because the phrase has to be backed up by your life. You see, Rich WAS God’s. He did all he could to be God’s. Meaning he wanted with all his being to be seen as someone who belonged to God. When people looked at him, he wanted them to see someone who was living his life for God in a passionate way. He wanted them to see that he was God’s.

What about you? What do you want people to see when they see you? Take some time to think about it. What do you think people see now when they look at you. You might even want to ask some of your friends and family what they see in you. Try it, you might be surprised. The point of this whole message is that the way we live our life makes a statement to the world about who we are in our hearts. Jesus needs us to live our lives for Him so we can bring other people closer to Him. One of Rich’s heroes, St. Francis, said: “Preach the gospel constantly and when necessary use words.” Rich would say it like this: “Be God’s.”

How would you say it?
