Glow in the Dark
Hello - Come on everybody!!!! Give it up for Jesus!!!
No Jesus is not coming in concert to a church near you. I’m talking about Lent. By the time you get this Lent will have already started. Well, have you given up anything yet?? In case you do not know: Lent is the time from Ash Wednesday to Easter when the Church becomes reflective. This means that we too should become reflective. What is all this reflecting about? The answer is easy: Jesus.
The word reflect has couple of meanings. One meaning is used about a mirror, it shows your reflection. Another is to think quietly about something. Which one are we supposed to do during Lent? Both!! When we take time reflect on who Jesus is to us we end up reflecting Him to the world much more than we had before the reflection time. Think of it like a glow in the dark sticker. When you hold it up to the light it soaks up the light and then you turn the light off and the sticker glows by itself. When we put ourselves in front of The Light we also glow. But what happens to the sticker about 20 minutes later? You’re right... its glowing fades away. So, if you want it to glow again, you have to put it back in front of the light. The same is true with us. We need to spend time in front of the Light of the World - Jesus - as often as possible so our glow never fades.
Now it is important to know that the power of Jesus to make us glow does last longer than 20 minutes. But it doesn’t last forever. During Lent we are encouraged to “give up stuff.” This is because if we stop doing the stuff we usually do we will have more time to reflect on Jesus and then at Easter the whole Church will glow so brightly in praise of the fact that Jesus rose from the dead 2000 years ago and still affects us today. So when you are thinking about what to give up... give up something that will give you more time to reflect on Jesus (like 30 minutes of T.V. or computer time) so that you can glow like you have never glowed before. It’s not too late to give up something, even though Lent has already started. Start today and you will be amazed at how much you glow at Easter. Life without Jesus is a life lived in darkness. So, do your part to glow in the dark. The darkness needs your light.
