Hello - Y-2K, the Millennial bug, no lights, no phones, no motor cars not a single luxury...
What is all the hubbub about the Year 2000. It is significant mostly because of one thing. It is the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus. All the other stuff just isn’t as important. So what if the electricity goes off for a few weeks. Big deal if you can’t play your new Sony Play Station for a while. 2000 years ago the King of the universe was born in a stinky barn, laid in a feeding trough, and visited by the modern day equivalent of homeless people (shepherds). He was born in the conditions some people are forecasting for Jan. 1, 2000. If He can be born with no electricity, phone, Internet, car, home, TV, computer, Ricky Martin, or Pokemon, then I think Y-2K is not such a big deal.
Can you imagine living without electricity? Or without the telephone? Sure it might be tough to live without these things, but people did without all of these things until a hundred years ago. But more importantly, can you imagine living without Jesus? Now I want you to be honest, which is harder to imagine not having? I hope it’s Jesus. He is the reason we are approaching Y-2K. The calendar was reset for Him. If not we’d be in the year 5760 (the Jewish calendar date). So, this year, whether or not the electricity goes off, remember that the point of all this is that God (the highest life form) came to earth and became one of us. As I’ve said before: It’s kind of like you becoming a dog to bring the saving message of human love to dogkind.
The year 2000 should not be about the computer. It should be about the 2000th birthday of Jesus. Jan 1st is the beginning of the year of Jubilee. It’s a time to celebrate, not be frightened. For Jesus did not give us a spirit of fear when we believed but one of power, love and self control (2 Timothy 1:7). So take that love, power and self control and Celebrate the REAL Y-2K!!!
