WWJD : We Want Jelly Doughnuts
Hello - Or maybe its Weally Whacked-out Jewelry Dude.
What’s the point of this WWJD thing? It seems out of hand. There are WWJD bibles, jewelry, bumper stickers, key chains, clothing, and tons of other stuff we are supposed to buy to ask the question What Would Jesus Do?. The question is fine, but a question without an answer is just neat idea. What is the answer? Is it multiple choice, short answer, or essay? Can it be answered in 500 words or less? Is there even an answer? Wow, so many more questions, sorry about that. But I’m afraid people are missing the point. It is a point that has been missed before.
When I was in high school way back in the 80’s only REAL believers wore crosses where other people could see them. After a while they became just another piece of jewelry. There was a kid in the youth group in 1988 who said to me one day that he took his cross off every night and every morning before he put it on he asked himself if he could live up to it that day. I was really touched by that. He had not forgotten the point. The point is that the cross is the place Jesus died for YOU. The point of the WWJD thing is to ask What Would Jesus Do? in a given situation.
Well, you first have to ask yourself: Do I know Jesus well enough to know what He would do? Do you know him at all? Don't miss the point. Wearing a cross or WWJD doesn’t make you a believer in Jesus just like not wearing that stuff doesn’t make you a non-believer. Jesus looks into your heart, not around your neck or wrist. So, go love Jesus and while you’re at it get some jelly donuts.
